Gorton, a chapelry in the parish of Manchester, hundred of Salford, 3½ miles E.S.E. from Manchester. Inhabitants 1604. In this place a resevoir has been formed by the proprietors of the Manchester and Salford works to increase the supply of water to the town of Manchester.
