FARNWORTH
Farnworth, a chapelry in the parish of Dean, hundred of Salford, 3 miles S. from Bolton. Inhabitants 2044. A spacious church under the late acts of parliment has been recently erected on Halshaw Moor, for the use of the neighbourhood. Darley Hall in this township is the seat of Benjamin Rawson, esq. At Farnworth* was born in 1544 Richard Bancroft, afterwords archbishop of Canterbury. He bore a principal share in the famous controversy with thr Puritans at Hampton Court, and was chief director in the translation of the Bible in present use.
