A Baptist Church in Eccles, Lancashire, 1831-1842

 

Figure 1.    The Parish of Eccles, Lancashire, showing the constituent areas, traced from the 1848 six-inch Ordnance Survey map. The conurbation to the east is Manchester. The areas are marked in full colour are three of the constituent hamlets of the Township of Barton-upon Irwell: Eccles, red; Winton, blue; Barton, orange. The area edged in green is the Township of Pendleton.  The historic village of Eccles is at the centre of Eccles hamlet. The area known locally as Patricroft is mainly in the south of Winton. The river Irwell forms the southern limit of both Eccles and Barton, and the bridge is in Barton, close to the boundary with Eccles. The urban areas of Salford are in the centre and east of Pendleton.
